Cody’s Heartwarming Rescue Story
As most of you have probably noticed, I have been profiling the animals available for adoption at the Pet Rescue of Miami. Today I would like to share with you the story of Cody and how he found a forever home. I truly hope each and every one of you are inspired by his story and find it in your hearts to help them animals there; either by adopting one of your own or making a contribution. I hope you enjoy this story, if you do, please pass it along to everyone you know - let’s spread the word about the amazing animals available for adoption!!
First I’d like to start out by telling you how Cody came to be at the shelter. Kat, a volunteer at the shelter was driving home when she saw a dog covered in sores sitting on a street corner. Kat pulled around the corner and got out of her car hoping to help the defenseless animal she saw before her. Being a volunteer at the shelter, Kat always had food in her car (just in case she ever came across this type of situation). Cody was incredibly scared so Kat kept her distance and began throwing bits of food at Cody luring him closer and closer.
After over 45 minutes, Kat was able to gain Cody’s trust - she placed a handful of food on the passenger seat of her car and Cody jumped right in. Once Cody was in the car, he was incredibly relaxed and very sweet. Kat said:
…it was like he knew he was finally safe
Cody was an un-neutered and covered in sores due to sarcoptic mange. Here are some pictures of how he looked when Kat first laid eyes on him:

Although it is obvious Cody was suffering from a severe case of mange, he still has a smile on his face! Cody remained at the shelter for a year and a half where he was able to completely recover from the mange. He was labeled as a dog who hated men, making him pretty much unadoptable. A girl named Emily began volunteering at the shelter and fell head over heels for Cody. Emily moved to New York and after getting settled down, flew to Miami and adopted Cody. She then drove back to New York, with her new found best friend beside her. Below are some pictures of Cody after his recovery, you won’t believe his remarkable transformation!

Words cannot express how absolutely adorable Cody is! It is so great to be able to share this wonderful story with you. I would like to take a second to thank Emily for sharing his story with me and for providing me with the pictures used on this blog. This truly is a great story and it really touched me. I want each and every one of my reader’s to know that while you may not think you as one person can make much of a difference, you can make a difference in the life of an animal - just look at Cody; Emily has made a huge impact on his life - she saved it.
As of right now Cody and Emily are living happily in Manhattan, it took him a few months to get adjusted to city living, but he is now a “happy, sweet, perfect doggy,” says Emily. Here are a couple pictures (courtesy of Emily) from Cody’s adoption day and his birthday. Can’t you see how happy he is?

I happen to know Cody and Emily personally, as we live in the same building in NYC. I also have a dog who is about 1/10th Cody’s size and Cody is just so sweet to him. Emily has done a wonderful thing for Cody and he is an extrememly swett, happy & well adjusted dog!

I am thrilled to know how beautiful and happy Cody is today. It’s a far cry from the way he looked the day I saw him on that street corner. There are so many abandoned and neglected animals out there, but with a collaboration of all of our efforts, there can be many more happy stories like Cody’s.

Cody is one lucky dog to have a chance for a happy life with a terrific dog-loving owner.
I hope others find it in their hearts to step up and make a difference any way they can.
