This Should NOT Be Legal - Help Put an End to it!
Today, I am going to share with you the most disturbing and emotional video I have ever seen. Whether you want to believe it or not, some counties in North Carolina are still allowed to euthanize animals using carbon monoxide gas. This is absolutely horrible, and words cannot even begin to express how deeply saddened I am to read about it.
One county (37 total counties in North Carolina employ carbon monoxide gassing), Yadkin, uses an incredibly cruel method and below you will find a link to a video that will show you exactly what is done to the poor animals at their “shelter”. BE WARNED: THIS VIDEO IS INCREDIBLY DISTURBING AND VERY SAD. Although this may be something that is very hard for most of you to watch, I strongly urge you to see it. Only by learning about the truth and viewing inhumane treatment with our own eyes will we be able to stand together and fight it.
Your comments are welcomed on this post - and what you thought of the video. Feel free to send a link to my post to anyone you can think of; the more people that watch this video, the faster change will come.
After watching the video, please contact North Carolina’s Gov. Easley at 919-733-4240 and 919-733-5811, Agricultural Commissioner Steve Troxler at 919-733-7125, and Chamber of Commerce President Lew Ebert at 919-836-1407. Tell them how you feel about their treatment of animals. Federal laws must also be passed to prohibit the use of gassing. Urge your Senators and Congressmen to push for a ban on gassing. Once you see the video, I am 100% sure you will be convinced that it needs to be stopped.Â
Here is the link to watch the video (it will take a couple minutes to load), and I am begging you to watch it. It is incredibly tough to see, but it is the cold hard truth. Please copy and paste the following link in your browser:

Please send everyone you know a link to my blog - let’s stand up for these poor animals!!
Thanks for reading! As always your participation in comments and discussions are encouraged and greatly appreciated!

That is absolutely horrible! I cannot believe that that is legal. Those poor animals, to have to die in that manner. This needs to be stopped!

This happens in more states than you realize…it is allowed/disallowed on a county basis in places like NC, SC, IL, OH…yes, more and more states are banning its use but there are just so many that are still in practice.
I agree that this needs to be outlawed on a national level — I’ve tried to search for an organized petition/protest that will be sent to the resources you describe above but all that I can find is on a county or even township level. While these efforts are commendable…and I added my name to as many as I could find…I believe it will take a national awareness and protest for this to stop completely. If I don’t find something that someone else has started (don’t want to duplicate efforts — I want to join a unified protest), I’ll start my own petition. I’ve found national protests against puppy mills (which I joined…breeding just adds to the problem imho) but no organized effort to end the use of gas chambers in these rural shelters.
Maybe Oprah will do a follow up segment and show what happens when people decide to “get rid” of an inconvenient pet…or they “buy” a puppy that becomes disposable when they tire of taking care of it/it grows up and isn’t a puppy anymore. I’m horrified by the craigslist postings that I see every single day — adertising a re-homing of a family pet…because the family is moving or having a baby.
Enough of my own rant - thanks for posting the video and your opinion on the use of gas chambers…the more people know about this, the more pressure the government (local, state AND federal) will feel to ban its use.

I just brought home a puppy and that turned my stomach. What’s wrong with a shot? That should be the ad for spaying/neutering your pet. To put puppies on the dead dogs broke my heart.
