PLEASE VOTE YES ON PROP 2!!

I have been following this story for awhile now, and I wanted to make all of my readers aware of just how important this issue is.  The vote occurs on November 4 in California - but everyone should know about this, because if it passes (and it should!) it may set the new standard for the entire country.

What is Prop 2?

• It is a modest measure that stops cruelty and inhumane treatment of animals.

• It would end the senseless cramming of farm animals into cages that are so small, they barely have room to turn around, lie down, or stretch their limbs.

What does voting yes on Prop 2 mean?

• Preventing cruelty to animals by ensuring that they are not stuffed into cages that barely hold them.

•  Calves that were previously tethered by the neck and can hardly move, pigs that frequently bite at their metal cages, and hens that get trapped and impaled on their wire cages would all be given humane treatment.

• Improvement of your health and food safety.

• Support for local farmers.  Prop 2 is supported by farmers because they know with better farming practices comes better, and safer food.  Factory farms can be incredibly harmful to local farmers because they put profits ahead of animal welfareand our health.

• Protection for clean air and water to safeguard our environment.  The American Public Health Association has called for a moratorium on new factory farms because of the devastating effect it has on our environment.  They can spread waste to our communities, contaminate our water supply, as well as our air.

• Most importantly, Prop 2 is a reasonable and common-sense reform.  it gives plenty of time (until 2015) for factories currently using severe confinement methods to switch over to more humane facilities.  States such as Arizona, Colorado, Florida, and Oregon have already passed similar reforms.
