Good Reminder

October 29th, 2008 by dsheffler

This past weekend, I was at the pumpkin patch picking out one to carve. My boyfriend and I made the trip together - it is about 15-20 minutes from home. When we first walked in, there was a sign pointing towards dogs and cats that were available for adoption. We went over to them, just looking to see what they had. Well…they had some incredibly cute puppies. No, I did not adopt any of them, but my experience reminded me how easy it is for people to decide spur of the moment.

Do you know how many families I saw at the pumpkin patch? Tons. I am sure there were many parents who heard about the puppies and kittens for a long time afterwards. I myself was seriously considering adopting one, and then I started to think with my brain. A dog right now is just not possible for me. It would not be fair to the dog at all. So what happened? Well, the idea of a new puppy faded and I got over it.

People need to think long and hard about whether they really want an animal in their life. It should not be based on looking at them for 5 minutes and deciding they are really cute, you should bring one home. That is not fair at all. If you are on the fence about whether or not you are ready for a pet, please check out my ebook “Things You Must Know Before and After Getting Your Dog”. It will help you to understand what is involved with your new pet.

Adopting an animal is a huge commitment, and you should only do it if you are 100% ready for the responsibility and hard work that needs to be put in.
