Keep Your Pets Safe This Winter!

With the weather starting to turn colder and snow beginning to fall – it is especially important that you think of your pets. Any animal that is normally housed outside should be brought inside where it is warm.

Pet owners also need to be very careful when they let their dogs outside to use the restroom or get exercise. Dogs are more likely to get lost in the winter – the snow helps cover up the scent and dogs who wander off are not able to find their way back home. If you are taking your dog outside and your yard is not fenced, please put her on a leash!

Dogs are also susceptible to frostbite on the pads of their feet. This is a very vulnerable spot on a dog and you need to make sure your pet’s feet are well protected. Be sure to trim back and long hair (to prevent snow from becoming trapped in it), and you should also think about having your pet wear protective socks or booties on their paws. This will help keep their feet warm and will prevent frostbite!

Please remember that there are animals out there who need our help and our support. Some dogs and cats are not lucky enough to have a nice warm home. I ask that you please make a donation to help no-kill shelters continue providing uninterrupted care to homeless dogs and cats.
