Free-Range Farming

February 16th, 2009 by dsheffler

Since this was recently passed in California, it will only be a matter of time before “free-range” becomes country-wide. This is a great thing for the welfare of all animals, and I am so happy to see it passed.

I have seen many undercover videos that show the horrible living conditions these animals are living in, and I am so proud of California for stepping up and doing what is best for the animals. The passage means that animals will not be confined to small cages, they will be given enough room to roam free, spread their wings, and run. Farmers opposed to the proposition claimed they would be spending more money on things such as cattle supplies, food, land, etc. and that the cost would have to be passed on to the consumer.  Studies showed that the costs would only rise about $.01 and would have little to no impact on consumers.

What do you think about the passage?  Does your state already have similar regulations in place?  If not, would you vote for or against it?  Please leave me your thoughts.
