Shelter Turns Down 12.7 Tons of Dog Food
An animal shelter recently turned away a donation of 12.7 tons of dog food (over 1,700 bags). Some of you may be thinking - are they crazy? Why would they refuse the donation? Please read the fascinating story below.
The $40,000 gift came from the Port of Seattle. They purchased the bags of dog food in order to test out a new conveyor system for luggage at the Sea-Tac International Airport. They decided on using dog food because it shifts around and it is the perfect size for the tests.
The Seattle shelter was grateful for the donation, but decided instead to give the bags of dog food to local pet owners in need. The shelter will keep a few bags, but they are donating almost 1,700 bags of food to those who really need it. The food will be distributed by Northwest Harvest, a state run hunger relief agency, and all resident pet owners are eligible.
The Seattle shelter has many pet owners who come in looking for help with their pets and help in feeding them. They do not believe in showing people the exit sign, and try their best to help each and every person that sets foot in their doors. This is a really great story and I am so pleased to hear that the shelter is donating the food to people who need it rather than let it sit around and possibly go bad.
Thanks for reading! As always your participation in comments and discussions are encouraged and greatly appreciated!!
