Follow-up to: Adopting From a Shelter
I got a couple of comments on my previous post and I just wanted to give everyone an update as to where I am in my search. You will all be very happy to know that I do have a new addition – a 1 year old Beagle named Maggie. We found her at our local animal control shelter and instantly fell in love with her. She is a very loveable dog and just wants to be close to people. She lays in her own bed at night and so far the nights have gone smoothly (we got her Wednesday afternoon). I’ll get pictures of her up soon so everyone can see what a beautiful dog she is.
I want to thank the people who left comments on the last post – your words helped me focus on what is really important (finding the right dog). I am a huge advocate of adopting from a shelter and even though some of the places had an adoption fee over $200 – they do take care of a lot of expenses. Keep in mind that shelters sometimes operate solely on donations and do not get any money from anywhere else. This is why it is important to donate when and if you can. I understand the reasons why shelters have high adoption fees – they are trying to recoup some of the money that was already spent on the dog (housing, food, shelter, not to mention vet care).
I have to say that although the search has been frustrating what we ended up with was well worth it. Maggie is truly a great dog with lots of love to give. ADOPTION MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE!
Pictures of Maggie will be coming this week!
Thanks for reading! As always your participation in comments and discussions are encouraged and greatly appreciated!!
