Considerations For a New Pet

April 14th, 2009 by dsheffler

With a new dog in the house, there are some things I need to think about as far as expenses go.  We had to take her to the vet last Thursday for her first check-up and while we were there we discussed different preventative medications she should be on.

She should be on a heartworm preventative and a flea and tick preventative.  These medicines were not too expensive, but if you are someone living on a limited budget with barely enough money to support your household, it may seem like money you just cannot spare.

This is why pet health insurance can come in handy for some people.  If you check the insurance rates, you may find that it will really benefit you.  Having your dog on a heartworm preventative and a product to repel fleas and ticks is very important to her health.  If left untreated, heartworms can be deadly and fleas and ticks can be incredibly uncomfortable.

Taking your dog to the vet is very important - if you are unable to afford veterinary care for your pet, contact your local Humane Society and see what resources are available to you!

Thanks for reading!  As always your participation in comments and discussions are encouraged and greatly appreciated!!
