Responsibilities of a Pet Owner

September 25th, 2009 by dsheffler

A responsible homeowner always have some type of home insurance - and a pet owner is no different!  There are things you need to be responsible for as well.  Here are a few examples:

  • When your dog is outside or on a walk, make sure she is leashed.  Some cities have leash laws so please make sure you are following them.  If your dog escapes, you could be charged hefty fines and receive tickets.
  • When walking your dog make sure you clean up after her.  There’s nothing more inconsiderate than leaving your dog’s mess for some one else to take care of.  On the market today are many fashionable bag dispensers - some that even clip right onto the leash!
  • Make sure your dog is being supervised when playing with toys or chewing on bones.  Once they get too small, it’s time to throw them out and get new ones!

These are just a few examples of what you as a pet owner should be doing to keep your dog safe and keep yourself out of trouble!  Do you have any other ideas about responsible pet ownership?  What “rules” do you follow?  Please leave your comments below!
