Pet Health Insurance
It’s getting harder and harder to find affordable health insurance not only for ourselves, but for out pets too. Around 1 million pets in the United States are currently covered under some sort of health insurance plan. Is your pet one of them? About $12.2 billion will be spent this year on veterinary care this is due to the fact that some widely used procedures (used for people) are now available for pets as well. How much money is involved with pet health insurance? Does it generally work the same way health insurance for people works? If you or someone you know currently has coverage for their pets, please post below. Also, if you work for an insurance company that also covers pets, I would be interested in your comments as well.

When I first originally looked into pet insurance was because one of my friend’s dog had gotten cancer. I had no idea dogs could even get cancer so that definitely shocked me! The treatment was really expensive, I mean in the thousands! Unfortunately she died and all he had left was this enormous vet bill. I would do the same thing as well but I know that I would not be able to afford that bill so that is why I looked into pet insurance. I did research for a couple of days and I looked on review sites. I found that to be really helpful because it was nice to know how people were treated when filing claims and things like that. I eventually went with Trupanion because the reviews looked really good and when I did a free quote on their website, it was pretty affordable for my 2 year old boxer! They pay 90% of the vet bill and I was allowed to choose my own deductible which would then affect how much I would be paying each month (higher deductible lower premium and vice versa). Pet care is really expensive and I think that pet insurance helps out a bit because vet bills are just going to get more and more expensive because of the new technology that is coming in.
