With the economy just starting to pick up, we are all looking for extra ways to save a buck and making sure you get items on sale is a great way to save money. So how can you start saving on pet supplies? Well - most Sunday newspapers have coupons you can clip that apply to dog treats, cat food, and many other pet supplies. Be on the lookout for your pet’s favorite snacks and clip the coupons you find most useful.
Now that you have the coupons, wait to purchase the items until they are on sale - some stores even have double coupon days so those would be the best times to go shopping. It doesn’t take long to save money, and every little bit you can save will add up to tremendous savings over a long period of time. It’s important to remember that even pet supplies can be discounted and it’s up to us as owners to watch for the best deals!

If you are anything like me, you view your pet as part of the family so it’s only natural that you would want to take your furry friend along with you on your summer vacation. If you choose to do this you have to do your research ahead of time and find out what hotels/resorts allow pets and what kinds of rules and fees will apply if you choose to bring him along.
There are many Disney World hotels that will allow your pet to be a guest, but is this really an appropriate place to bring your pet along with you? Probably not. You will spend most of your day at the theme parks and your pet will have to stay cooped up in the hotel room, or even in the hotel kennel until you return.
There are many places that are incredibly pet-friendly, and just a simple search online will tell you the best getaways for your and your animal companion. Going to the beach, or staying in a cabin in the woods would be a great vacation for you and your pet. Just make sure you read up on any local laws - make sure you are familiar with the leash laws and what shots your pet needs before the trip!

Ok, I am going to open this post up to you, my readers - with all the things Maggie has chewed on, I am sure your dogs have had their fair share of funny and interesting chew toys. Please be sure to leave your comments below!
Maggie has been caught chewing on many different objects including watches, shoes, and even log furniture! It took her a little while to get out of her chewing stage, but we finally found something she loves to chew on - her rawhide bone. Buying that bone was the best thing we ever did and since it’s purchase Maggie hasn’t chewed on anything but her bone. Sure she occasionally plays with her other stuffed toys, but she hasn’t bothered our stuff since we bought the bone.
I thought we were going to have to resort to buying the bitter apple spray but it really hasn’t been necessary since she now has a bone to chew on and keep her busy.

During the summer months, it can be difficult to make sure your pet gets her daily exercise requirement. I know Maggie cannot be outside for very long because of the humidity and warm temperatures, so we try to take her outside as frequently as possible and increase her amount of inside play time.
Some people have been able to train their dogs to walk on a treadmill which can come in very handy when the weather does not permit you to take your dog on long walks outside. We have a treadmill in our basement but I think Maggie would be too scared to walk on it. It hardly ever gets used by people anymore, and I know she could put it to good use, but she is really a wimp when it comes to loud noises and things that are unfamiliar to her.
I really love elliptical machines and am seriously considering purchasing one. They seem to give you the best workout as far as gym equipment goes and you can burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time.
If the weather is warm where you live, consider bringing your dog inside for fun activities that will keep them cool and keep them in shape!

It can be hard having a pet that is a few pounds overweight - I know because Maggie is about 4 pounds too heavy. We are taking her for longer walks every day and really being careful when giving her treats. We have switched from treats like “Pupperoni” and “Beggin Strips” to all natural treats that support her digestion and are good for her. Some people even give their pets vegetables (such as green beans) when they are overweight.
Giving your pet weight loss drinks that are intended for humans is incredibly dangerous and should not be tried under any circumstances. If you need suggestions as to how to cut the fat out of your pet’s diet the best place to start is right at your vet’s office. Be honest with them about how much you are feeding your pet and what you are feeding them. If you aren’t truthful about that, the problem will never be resolved.
